Pumpkin Farm

The kids and I spent a fun day at Hill Ridge Farms and it was one of the best activities we did this Fall. A couple of neighbors told me about it last year, but we weren't able to go. I highly recommend this place if you live in eastern North Carolina. This place had a little bit for everyone to do, just wish we would have gotten there earlier since it closes at 6pm.

This is a child size maze. Syd likes to think she is still a child.

I had so much fun watching and hearing all the screaming people came down the slide. So glad I got this shot.

What a cutie pie!

Someone kept changing their mind on which pumpkin to take home.

This covered wagon was our ride to and from the pumpkin patch.

A rare picture of them both smiling and looking at the camera

After a long wait we finally got on the train. It's not the Hogwarts express, but it will have to do.
Evidently jumping on hay bales is a lot of fun, I don't think Brody actually jumped.

Show me something Missouri

I'm trying to catch up on my blog post and vowing not to get behind again. We decided to visit my husbands family in Missouri, right before school started. Missouri is a lot prettier in the summer but we always seem to go when it's cold so this was a nice treat. Missouri is where my husband grew up, he had some great memories of living there and always talks about moving back someday. I think we'll have to think about that, only because I'm always saying there is nothing to do, and it's the middle of nowhere.

We spent most of our time at my mother-in-laws house catching up and hearing stories about my husband when he was a little boy. Our son is definitely made from the same mold as his daddy. I always wonder where he gets his energy. He is so funny and he always coming up with things that make us say "what in the world is he talking about".  My brother in law came to visit as well and he's a hoot, and good story teller. It was really nice to see them again and I  wished that we lived closer to family. But that is military life you have to go where they send you and make wherever you are home.

Beautiful fishing areas and the water is so clean.

Picking up sticks for the roaring fire, he is so anxious to start. I don't think these sticks are gonna cut make that much difference.

Uncle Dave gets it started and oh boy he has a new best friend.

This place is called Boiling Springs I am not sure why, because this spring is freezing and it just looks like a hole in the side of a cliff that looks so deep I wouldn't dare let Brody get too close.

Down the road a bit there is a small beach where people go and float on the water, jump in from a rope swing and hang out in their lawn chairs.

This old building was awesome, it was really big and I wish we'd had more time I would have taken our picture in front of it.

This is a local fish hatchery and we went to take a look at all the trout and feed them.

I wish we could have brought a net, I love trout.

On the way home we stopped in Tennessee and went to Wonder Works with the kids. I had no idea how much fun this place was. They give great military discounts for all you dependents and active duty members. My camera died right after this picture otherwise, I would have posted some the fun stuff they had to do inside.

cliffs of the neuse

A couple of weeks ago the kids and I went to Cliffs of Neuse, a state park near our house. We haven't been there in years it's a nice place to go and hike, rent a paddle boat, or go swimming. We decided to go for a little hike, unfortunately we forgot to bring our swim suits so we decided to buy an ice-cream instead.  It was another day of playing tourist in our own town.

I'm loving the hand on the hip thing.

This would have been a good picture except she was wearing those big glasses.

I figured out how to set the timer on my camera for the family shot below. I really should read my camera instructions.

I'm still here....

I've been taking a long break from blogging this summer but I am finally back and I have a lot of catching up to do. It's back to school time again, and here in our home we have a couple of first timers.  Sydney is starting high school at a new school and Brody has started preschool. It's been pretty exciting, Brody got some new shoes, clothes, and the all important superhero book bag. So far the kids really like school Sydney has joined a couple of clubs and has already squeezed money out of me for club fees. And Brody missed class pictures because he's already been sick and missed a couple days of school. Most importantly they seem to be adjusting well and I have so much time during the day I don't know what to do with myself.
I've decided to start looking for work unfortunately this is not the best of time because the economy is not so great, it may take a long to find something but I will eventually land on my feet somewhere.

Sydney first day of high school. Where did the time go?

I was so proud of him, he went right into his classroom gave me a kiss and said " I'm gonna be alright mama."
