Cholchester Zoo

A day off from school means a day at the zoo!
And in typical English weather it was cold, muggy, and a little rainy but that was just the morning. The sun showed up later in the day it was still cold but at least sunny. This zoo gives military discount.

Maybe it was because it was a weekday or maybe it was just too cold, but there were not a lot of people. Which was good for us because we had the place to ourselves.

What is Brody going to do without his big sister always giving him a boost? I don't even want to think about it.

Not quite there, yet.

How many people does it take to find the toilet?

Otters never disappoint.

I've never seen a wallaby in a petting zoo before. This made me so nervous, I kept thinking it's going to kick my kid in the head.

I really don't like monkeys and they don't like me either, and this zoo had more monkey's than any other zoo I've ever been to.

When it came time to feed the elephants, I just couldn't do it!! I left his carrot on top of the gate.

The zoo keeper had just walked in to feed the wolves and this is the look they got. You couldn't pay me enough to take care of them.

My First Auction and I'm Sold!

Went to my first auction this past Friday in a town named Diss with some friends. I know I'll keep going back. The great thing about auctions in the UK verses the US, is that everything really is antique. This place had an area called the pins which I assume were once animal pins. It's mostly covered and where you get the most bang for your buck.  You are required to pay a VAT fee which is like taxes on anything you buy. I believe it was about 15% which can be a bit steep, so you have make sure that you remember that, when bidding. There are also two other buildings one has fine antiques, jewelry, china basically the really good stuff. The other carries newer stuff that you may find in a yard sale. There is farm/ land equipment kept in another big area. And a bunch of stuff outside. Each auction starts at different times and some things are only for sale on Saturdays.

This is a piece of furniture that was outside in the pins and it needed a new cushion but it was solid wood glider.

I really wished that I had the room in the car for one of these tables because they went for about £30 which is about $50.

This box of old books was something pretty cool and the catalog had them listed for about £10.

This box of china was listed in the catalog at £15

All of these canes were being sold together and they were pretty cool. I would have loved to have bid on these but then I wouldn't have known what to do with them.

It was an usually sunny morning and all items outside were not be auctioned until the next day.

We took a break from the cold weather and went inside for some hot chocolate and scones while we watched the more expensive items being auctioned off.

All of these cool barrels and boxes were housed in my favorite room of all. These items were to be auctioned off the next day and I loved, just about everything in here.

This is a seed separator although I'm not sure what kind of seeds.

Oh me, Oh my, lanterns!! I'll take two please. And maybe a scale for my kitchen

A world clock

I "needed" this to churn my butter, or maybe just to put in my dinning room.

This was all I really bid on, a draw of this and that. The bottles were what I was really after they are ginger beer bottles. And someone at the auction offered to pay me £10 for just 2 of my bottles but I turned him down. Some things went higher than expected and some things went really cheap. I can't wait to go back and maybe I'll score something really nice.

The Band Perry

We got to see The Band Perry this week, and they were so good. Kimberly Perry is very talented she sounded so good. This was my first time attending a concert sponsored by USO and they did a great job.

During the month of March most Airman grow out there mustaches which is why Mick has one. It's really odd to see all these guys growing facial hair and comparing who's has grown the best one. And that's one of my crazy friends in the back, photo bombing us.

I must have missed "the wear your plaid shirt" memo.

My cell phone didn't take the best pictures, but trust me our view was better than this.
